Behind every meaningful advancement in clinical neuroscience lies not only scientific brilliance, but also the quiet vision and steadfast generosity of individuals who believe in the power of knowledge to heal. Through the generous support of Mr and Mrs Tim and Jill Gallie, HKUMed has established three signature initiatives — the Tim and Jill Gallie Lecture, the Tim and Jill Gallie Travelling Fellowship, and the Tim and Jill Gallie Postgraduate Fellowship in Neurosurgery — programmes that will nurture talent, foster collaboration, promote innovation, and advance excellence in patient care for generations to come.

Mrs Jill Gallie is an exemplar of altruism and compassion who has made a deep impression on Hong Kong society through her support of higher education. Born and educated in Hong Kong, she built a professional career as a stockbroker and has devoted decades to supporting HKU. She is a long-serving HKU Mentor and Honorary Director of the HKU Mentorship Scheme.

Over the years, her philanthropy has touched multiple disciplines within medicine, from cardiology and orthopaedics to broader population health initiatives. During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2022, when medical students were urgently called to serve in isolation centres, Mrs Gallie acted swiftly — donating HK$1 million to provide immediate support for these young frontline contributors. In 2022, she was awarded an Honorary University Fellowship in recognition of her contribution to the University and society.

Her generosity reflects a family tradition of community service and philanthropy, with ties to HKU stretching back generations — from her grandfather Sir Robert Kotewall and her father Francis Zimmern to her mother Helen Zimmern. Mr Tim Gallie shares this commitment, standing alongside Mrs Gallie in supporting causes that advance education and medical research. Their generosity reminds us that behind every breakthrough — every improved treatment, every trained specialist, every healed patient — often lies a spark of vision and compassion from individuals who choose to give back.

We at the Clinical Neuroscience Consortium remain profoundly thankful for the Gallies' unwavering faith in the ability of education and research to change lives. Their landmark gift of HK$10 million has provided vital support for CNC's development, making possible the very programmes and ambitions that define our work. Their legacy shines brightly, enriching lives and strengthening the foundations of knowledge and care for Hong Kong and beyond.
